CABARET CROONER, TONY MESSINA,
BRINGS HIS SHOW...DINO,
A TRIBUTE TO DEAN MARTIN,
TO MANHATTAN'S METROPOLITAN ROOM
October, 2008.....Cabaret crooner Tony
Messina brings his successful show, DINO, A Tribute to Dean Martin,
to Manhattan's Metropolitan Room for a four-night run beginning
Wed., November 5th. He'll be backed by musical director/pianist
Barry Levitt and bass player, Tom Hammond.
In preparation for his show, Messina
researched Dean Martin's life for many years. Besides all the material
in books, magazines, news articles and TV shows, he viewed
film footage housed in Hollywood archives and not seen by most
of the public.
"This is not an impersonation, nor
an impression," Tony says, "but Dean Martin had
such charisma, magnetism and charm when he performed, that my
entire focus is attempting to capture that essence and have audiences
enjoy and remember him for all the many songs he was
identified with, made so popular and the infectious humor he
shared with us, as well.
DINO follows Dean's lifetime path, and
covers his his film career, his iconic Rat Pack status,
competition with Frank Sinatra, and the ups-and-downs of his
relationship with Jerry Lewis.
Tony co-created the show with veteran screenwriter Rudy De Luca,
who penned some of Mel Brooks' hit films and Carol Burnett's
television shows.
Tony's previous sold-out DINO shows include
engagements in Nantucket, Palm Beach, Beverly Hills, Aspen and
Tucson.
Stage and film producer Mel Brooks says,
"Dino is blazingly funny and touching;" "Tony
Messina's Dino show was brilliant," from Herb Goldsmith,
Tony Award-winning Broadway producer of the 2006 Revival of Glen
Gary Glenn Ross; "Dino is a must see," says Thom Smith
of the Palm Beach Post; and Dick Robinson of WXEL, West Palm
Beach said, "Dino is irresistible."
Messina, a native of Philadelphia, who
resides in Manhattan and Palm Beach, is also known for his jazz
vocal stylings and songwriting. He has appeared live in concert
from coast to coast and internationally at jazz festivals.
Tony's performed with such entertainment
luminaries as George Carlin, David Letterman, Joan Rivers, Johnny
Carson, Rodney Dangerfield, Merv Griffin, Stan Kenton, Lionel
Hampton, Louie Bellson, and Paul Smith.
A few years ago, Messina was a guest artist
for a benefit honoring Tony Bennett held by the Sons of Italy
Organization. For four consecutive years, he performed at the
Sinatra Invitational in Ranch Mirage, CA for Frank and Barbara
Sinatra who were big fans.
Messina has several CD's on R & M Jazz
Records which combine the Great American Songbook classics and
original compositions. His "Soft Nights in Vegas" was
chosen by WHLI Radio, New York as one of the Top 40 Albums for
2007.
Tony's latest, Britney Superstar, a rock/pop
single, is available on itunes and CDBaby.
